Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for Car Dealers

Google Analytics 4 [GA4] is Google's next generation of Analytics which collects event-based data from both websites and apps. Google rolled out the newest platform in September 2021 to replace the legacy platform "Google Universal Analytics" (UA). And July 2023 has sunsetted the legacy platform, with a full launch of the New Google Analytics 4 (GA4) platform.

To start using Google Analytics through your Google Ads account, click Admin icon Admin Icon, then click Linked accounts, and go to Details beside “Google Analytics”. One of the drawbacks of GA4 is that it has a different way of handling data compared to UA. While UA focused on sessions and page views, GA4's measurement model is purely event-based.

Why is it called GA4?
Google Analytics 4 - or GA4 - is the newest version of Google's analytics platform. Unlike its predecessor, Universal Analytics, or UA, GA4 is an event-based platform instead of a session-based one.

How does GA4 track users?
Device ID. Every user or device that interacts with your website or app is given a special identity called a 'Device ID' in GA4. It makes it possible for GA4 to distinguish between several users and sessions and to monitor user behaviour across various devices.
